Obituary

Charlie was born on March 26, 1961 to Earlene and Arthur Schickram in Lompoc and went to heaven on March 10, 2017. He attended Lompoc schools and graduated from Cabrillo High School.

Charlie was born with Down syndrome, but he did not let that define him. He was active in Special Olympics, LOVARC, and worked for many years at the Vocational Training Center. For 14 years he shared his time living with sister Ann and her family in Vandenberg Village, and sister Karen and her family in Chanhassen, Minnesota where he volunteered at Karen's church.

Charlie was kind, loving and always very polite; he would never pass up a hot cup of coffee and a brownie at Southside or a beef taco salad. He blessed many with his generous hugs and his happy disposition!

Charlie is survived by sisters, Ann Ladwig and her husband Paul of Vandenberg Village, Karen Bennett and her husband Dave of Chanhassen, Minnesota, and sister Linda Del Castillo of Cancun, Mexico, along with six nieces and nephews and five great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Earlene and Arthur.

For the last six years of his life, Charlie was well-loved and cared for by the incredible staff of the Comprehensive Care Center as he dealt with Alzheimer's disease. There will be a celebration of Charlie's life on Friday, March 24th, at 11:00 AM at North Avenue Baptist Church, 1523 W. North Ave., Lompoc.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to LOVARC, or the Lompoc Hospital Foundation - CCC Remodeling Project.
