Obituary

Charley Wade Jordan passed from this earth to join Christ on January 5, 2021. Charley was born Christmas Day, December 25, 1927, in Broken Bow, Oklahoma, to Rubin Alexander and Alvie Early Cline Jordan. His parents were farmer and sharecroppers. They traveled to Arkansas, Texas, and Oklahoma in a horse-driven, covered wagon.

Charley completed eighth grade and continued to help his parents with their own land. When he turned 18, he decided to join the United States Army, which later became the Army/Air Force. While stationed in Yokohama, Japan, he met and married his wife of 54 years, June Marsha Suzuki. They traveled the world together until Charley's retirement as a tech sergeant in 1969 at Langley Air Force Base, Virginia.

They headed to Lompoc, California, where he had previously been stationed, because they loved the mild weather there. Charley began his employment of 24 years with International Telephone and Telegraph/Federal Electric Corporation at Vandenberg AFB. After a second retirement, because June tired of his sleeping late and growing facial hair, she demanded he get a job! He stood in line in a three-piece suit on a hot day to interview and become one of the first greeters at the newly-opened Walmart in Lompoc. After 10 years of employment there, he left this job to care for June, whose health was failing.

He and one of his daughters, Marsha, learned to administer home dialysis until her passing on October 27, 2007. Charley then devoted himself to serving in ministry at North Avenue Baptist Church in Lompoc. He served as a greeter, deacon, usher, and in the ministry for the homeless and needy. Charley has left a legacy of devoted service and a life of prayer.

He will long be remembered by his family and Christian brothers and sisters for seeking God's grace in bringing others into His Kingdom. He is survived by his two sisters, Litty May Lewis and Ruby Mills; sons, Darvin (Linda) and Gregory (Sheri); daughters, Marsha (William) Elliott, Ruth (Mitchell) Gildea, and Debbie (Craig) Morrison; 11 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

A visitation will be held at Starbuck-Lind Mortuary on January 22, 2021, at 12 noon until 1 pm, followed by a graveside service at Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery at 2 pm. A celebration of life service will be held on February 13, 2021, at 11 am at North Avenue Baptist Church, 1523 West North Avenue, Lompoc, California.
