Obituary

On July 17, 2011 Christopher left this earth to spend his life in eternity with his Heavenly Father.

Christopher was born on December 13, 1990 at Lompoc Hospital in Lompoc, California. He grew up here first attending La Honda Elementary School, then El Camino Middle School, and finally Cabrillo High School where he graduated with honors in June 2009. Since that time he has been a student at the University of California at Berkeley.

Christopher was a beloved son, brother, and friend. He touched the lives of countless people. One of his greatest passions was football, which he started playing at the age of seven with YFL. While in high school he played all four years and in his senior year was a captain of the Cabrillo team. His coaches and his team there were some of the most important people in his life and we thank them for the ways they helped shape the man he was becoming.

His tragic accidental death occurred in Leogane, Haiti where he had chosen to spend this summer working with the people there who are still trying to recover from the earthquake. His greatest dream and goal was to help people and make a difference in someone's life. In the first email he sent from Haiti he said "Mom I am going to make it here and change a life". He changed many lives there. Those of the people he was working with as well as the lives of the many local residents he came to know.

Chris deeply loved all the people he knew at home and away. He had an amazing capacity for love, compassion, and forgiveness. He is still touching lives by giving the gift of life through organ donation. He was removed from life support at 5 am July 20 following the surgery that directly saved 2 lives and will help 200 to 300 more people indirectly.

Christopher is survived by his father and stepmother Robert and Janet Zahuta, his mother and stepfather Steve and Christie Jeffers, brothers and sisters, Matthew Zahuta, Jamie and Scott Weirback, Eric Jeffers and Kristina and Kilee, Staci and Chris Leed and their children Adryan and Hannah, and Joslin Alderman. He is also survived by numerous aunts and uncles, cousins, and extended family. Christopher was preceded in death by his two brothers Daniel Zahuta and Ryan Jeffers and also by his grandfathers Joseph Zahuta and Bill Nelson.

The memorial service will be open to the public and held Friday, July 29th at 1 p.m. at Trinity Church of the Nazarene, 500 E. North Ave., Lompoc. If anyone wishes to make a donation in his memory we ask that they go to the organization he was working with in Haiti, All Hands Volunteers. These donations can be made on the internet at Hands.org or mailed to All Hands Volunteers, P.O. Box 546, Carlisle, MA 01741.

Chris, we will love you and miss you for the rest of our lives.. As you told me it's not goodbye just see you later.
