Obituary

Cipriano DeLira, 96, died peacefully at home with his family in Lompoc on October 6, 2018.

Cipriano was born September 26, 1922, in Augusta, Kansas, to Yrineo and Carmen DeLira.  As an infant in the early 1920's, the family which also included Jose, Juan and Estefana DeLira, settled in Lompoc, California, and stayed there permanently where more siblings would be born which included Aurelio, Ladislao, and Mary DeLira.  Cipriano's parents were among the original Mexican pioneer families who worked for Bodger Seed Company in the 1930's.

Cipriano went to Lompoc High School where he played football and ran track.  Because of his speed and quickness, Cipriano (or "Cip" as he was known) became known as "Zip" to his many friends and family.  He graduated from Lompoc High School in 1941, being the first in his family to do so.  During WWII he was drafted into the Army and served in the Signal Corps stateside.  While stationed in New York, he met his wife Carmen Rivera and settled in Hawthorne, California, where they raised five children.

Cipriano knew when he was 13 years old that he wanted to become a barber.  After completing barber college in Los Angeles, he owned different shops in the Los Angeles area during his barber career there.  In the mid-1970's he moved back to Lompoc and was a local businessman, having his own shop, El Cid Barber Shop, in Buellton, California.  Though Cipriano lived many places, to him Lompoc was always home.

Cipriano is survived by his daughter Carmen Noriega-granddaughter Maria Teresa Febus; daughter Laura DeLira Pinna-grandchildren Eric Penley, Natalie Bowers, and Holland Venema; daughter Rosalia DeLira Razo-grandson Jason Billips; daughter Julia DeLira-grandchildren Christopher Baker, Lisa, Daniel, and Salina Jaramillo; son John DeLira-grandchildren Robert DeLira and Marina Aranda; along with many great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Family was very important to Cipriano; he will be greatly missed.

A graveside service followed by burial will be held on Friday, October 26, 2018, at 1 pm, at Pomona Valley Memorial Park, 502 E. Franklin Ave., Pomona, California 91766.
