Obituary

Consuelo "Connie" Rojas, 98 beloved mother, grandmother and adored loved one, passed away peacefully at her home in Lompoc on August 16, 2023, surrounded by her family.

Connie was born on August 4, 1925, to Ramon and Gavina Diaz in South San   Francisco, but her family moved to Lompoc when she was young where her father became employed with Southern Pacific Railroad. During her teen years, Connie worked as an usher at the Lompoc Theater. She met her beloved Rudy after he returned from World War II, and they were married September 6, 1947. They had three children and Connie stayed home to raise them, and even ran a daycare since she loved children. With her amazing cooking skills, she fed not only her family but also the neighborhood kids that came around when she was making fresh tortillas or tacos.

Connie valued her family, immediate and extended. Every weekend there were family gatherings, and with her five siblings, and Rudy's six, there were always lots of loved ones around.

Connie loved gardening, feeding wild birds, traveling with the Grange tours, and knitting for loved ones.

But Connie was most known for loving children, especially babies. When she finally became a grandmother at 80, to twins, she was in heaven. Her goal was to stay alive to see them enter kindergarten. She lived till they finished their first year of college.

Survivors include her children Richard, Daniel, and Virginia, and grandchildren Diego and Adriana, all of Lompoc. She is also survived by siblings Rosie Martinez and Edward Diaz, both of Texas, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Rudy, her parents Ramon and Gavina Diaz, brothers Raymond and Camy Diaz, and sister Josie Martinez.

The Rojas family would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the countless medical providers and support for Connie over the years, especially the staff from VNA Health Palliative and Hospice care, and Family Service Agency. Connie was able to stay at home until the Lord called her home.

In honor of Connie, there will be a visitation at Starbuck Mortuary, September 5  from 6-7 pm, with a recitation of the Holy Rosary 7-8 pm. A graveside service will be held September 6, at Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery at 10 am. Celebration of Life luncheon will follow at the Knights of Columbus at 523 E. Chestnut, Lompoc.
