Constance Ann Ayres, 58, of Lompoc, died Sunday, February 3, 2008 at Lompoc Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. A native of Lompoc, she was born November 29, 1949 to Floyd and Anna Smith and graduated in 1967 from Lompoc High School and continued her education at Allan Hancock College.
Connie lived in Hawaii for many years, where she worked as an orthodontic assistant. On July 29, 1987 in Lompoc, she married Donald Ayres, and spent the next 20 years in her hometown enjoying her family, her work as an orthodontic assistant in Santa Ynez, and taking part in every activity she could to live her life to the fullest, including cross-country RV travel. A talented artist, during her lifetime Connie created dozens of paintings that graced the walls of her home and the homes of her appreciative family members. She also was an American Cancer Society volunteer, a member of La Purisima Catholic Church and donated her time each week in the Lompoc Soup Kitchen.
Connie is survived by her husband Donald of Lompoc; her sons Michael (Jen) O'Sullivan and Nathan O'Sullivan of Hawaii, and Sean of Lompoc; her mother Anna Smith of Lompoc; her sisters Paula Symons of Middleton, Wis. and Joyce Brown of Lompoc, as well as a niece, two nephews and many relatives in Lompoc and throughout California. She was preceded in death by her father, Floyd Smith.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, February 8, 2008 at La Purisima Catholic Church with Rev. Tom Cook officiating. Burial will follow at Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation hours will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Starbuck-Lind Mortuary.
