Cookie Dixon, 84, passed away on March 16, 2023, in Lompoc, CA.
Cookie was born Valeta Mae Scott on August 4, 1938, in Seneca Falls, NY. Cookie is survived by 7 children, Sherry Barnes, Camillus NY; Melissa Devan (David) of Las Vegas, Nevada; Melinda Fish (Rick) of Sun City West, Arizona; Melanie Niedens of Lompoc CA; Emiel Martens (Shannon) of Camarillo, CA; Darlene Salazar (Albert) of Tracey, CA and Marlene Valentin of Puerto Rico. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. She was proceeded in death by her husband, Roy Dixon and brothers Doug Scott and Gary Scott.
Cookie moved to California in the 1960s. She resided for most of her adult life in Lompoc where she worked at various restaurants and bars, including the Whistle Stop for over 28 years until it closed on December 31 st , 2018. The years she spent working at the Whistle Stop were special to Cookie as she developed many friendships there. She was well known for her Corned Beef and Cabbage which she made every St. Patrick's Day for almost 20 years. She was also known for greeting friends and customers alike with, "Hi Sweetie, what can I get you?"
Cookie married Roy Dixon in 1989. Roy and Cookie enjoyed their life together. They especially enjoyed their travels and loved the time they spent in Alaska and the years they spent as camp hosts at Jalama Beach. Her grandchildren would often visit her at Jalama and looked forward to the vanilla ice cream cups she always had stocked in her RV for them. Cookie also enjoyed spending time with her many friends. Her afternoons and evenings were often spent sitting with her glass of wine and laughing with those friends at the Elks Lodge or the American Legion Post.
She was very proud of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She especially loved talking about her family and sharing about their accomplishments. Cookie's adoration for her grandchildren and great grandchildren was evident. She would light up when she would speak about them.
Her deep contagious laughter, her friendly, warm greetings, and caring heart will be missed.
The family will be holding a celebration of life on May 6 th in Lompoc.
