Cordelia M. Johnson of Lompoc passed away Monday, January 8, 2007 at the age of 81. She was born March 19, 1925 to Joseph and Laura Mix in Two Rivers, Wisconsin.
While she was a child, her family relocated to Gray's Harbor County, Washington, where she lived until moving to Lompoc in 1958. "Cordy" began working in the accounts payable department of Johns-Manville shortly after arrival, and retired a Quarter-Century Club member in 1987.
She volunteered for Meals on Wheels and attended First Baptist Church while she was physically able. Cordy loved to read and was an avid card player, still able to win most hands from her daughter, to the delight of the aides at the Convalescent Care Center.
When her children were young, she took them for several vacations to Avila Beach, and their cabin stays there are fondly remembered, along with flights to Washington to visit family there.
Cordy is survived by her son, Ron of Lompoc, and her daughter, Lauri of Fresno; a sister, Lucille and her husband Daniel Sopko of Washington; four grandchildren, all in Lompoc: Heather Caplinger, and Daniel, Christopher, and Ashley Johnson; and two great-grandchildren, Nathan Caplinger, and Grace Johnson.
Visitation will be held Friday, January 12 at 2pm at Starbuck-Lind Mortuary followed by graveside services at 3pm at Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery.
