Cordelia Lomnes, 95, passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at the Baptist Health Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Scotia, NY where she resided since March 2007.
Cordelia was born December 16, 1917 in Minneapolis, MN to Ida and William Schumacher. She lived at the Glen Eddy Retirement Community in Niskayuna NY from June 2004 and was previously a longtime resident of Lompoc, CA for 53 years. She was an accounting supervisor at Johns Manville Celite Division in Lompoc for 15 years in the 1950's and 1960's.
Cordelia was a member of the Red Cross Auxiliary at the Lompoc Hospital with 40 years of service and an active member of the Lompoc Alpha Club for more than 40 years including several terms as club secretary. She was a member of the Lompoc Valley Historical Society. She was fond of Lompoc and continued her membership even after she left as one way to keep contact with the community and enjoy the history of her very special "Valley of Flowers".
Being married to a mining engineer she lived in many colorful locations beginning in Walkermine California in the High Sierras in 1937. This was a remote location and required quite an adjustment for a Midwestern City girl but she adapted well and made many lifelong friends in the time they lived there. The family also lived in Toole, UT and Darwin, Ca before relocating to Lompoc in 1951.
She and her husband were avid gardeners and took great pride in their gardens. She entered flower arrangements in the Lompoc Flower Show for many years and won Best of Show on one occasion.
Cordelia married Eldon Lomnes on July 10, 1937 in Minneapolis, MN. He predeceased her on October 20, 2001.
She is survived by daughter Suzanne Radford of the San Francisco Bay area; a son Stephen Lomnes and wife, Barbara of Halfmoon NY; grandchildren Andrew James Lomnes, Stephen J. Lomnes, Erica Lomnes Pambianchi, Anne Marie Sebastiani; Elizabeth Platt and eight great grandchildren as well as six nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Friday March 15, 2013 at 11 a.m at the Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery followed by private internment in the family plot.
