Obituary

As we mourn the loss of our beloved mother, Cordelia "Cordy" Maxine Pacheco who passed away peacefully on October 28, 2022. She was 91 years old and a long-time resident of Lompoc. We are comforted in knowing she is reunited in Heaven with the love of her life, Roger Eligio Pacheco.

Cordelia Maxine Romero was born to Maximo Romero and Pablita Lopez Romero on January 23, 1931 in Bingham, Utah. The Romero family moved to Chama, New Mexico in the 1930's where Cordy spent her childhood and adolescence. She and her siblings spent many wonderful days enjoying life in the beautiful mountains and rivers surrounding Chama.

The family moved to Lompoc, California when Cordy was a young teen. She quickly made many friends and met her future husband, Roger when attending Lompoc public schools. They fell in love and after several years of dating, were married at La Purisima Catholic Church on August 14, 1949.

Roger and Cordy raised a family of four children, three sons and one daughter. While raising a family, Cordy was employed with Sears, Roebuck where she served as a telephone operator taking catalog orders from customers. Once Sears transitioned to using teletyping orders directly to the distribution centers, Cordy was key in implementing the new system at the Lompoc store. She was later promoted to Assistant Manager for the remainder of her career with Sears.

After retirement in 1986, Cordy became actively involved with the Lompoc Elks alongside Roger. She served as President of the Ladies Elks organization for one term and gave up her time to ensure the success of Lady Elks sponsored charitable events. She and Roger spent many Saturday afternoons socializing at the club where they were joined by other couples to play hearty rounds of "31".

In later years, Cordy became a world traveler along with friends and family. She loved to cruise and visit places she dreamt about as a child. She visited many exciting places such as China, South America, Panama, Mexico, Alaska, Hawaii, and much of the east coast United States.

Cordy welcomed family and friends with open arms to her home, especially when there was a need for support or comfort. She made sure there was always room for one more at the table and in her life. She truly was a great mother figure to many and loved by all. Often times she would discover a friend of one of her children asleep on a couch in her front room. These overnight guests were always welcomed and found safety and comfort in the Pacheco house.

She will always be remembered as a kind, loving and generous true "lady" who was always dressed to the nines, impeccably coordinated in lovely outfits from head to toe.

Cordelia was preceded in death by her parents, Maximo and Pablita Romero, husband Roger E. Pacheco, siblings Amelia Standen, Manuel Romero, Sally Terrones, and Phoebe Ostlie.

Her survivors include her children, Roger (Karen) Pacheco of Lompoc, Susan (Victor) Adams of Loveland, Colorado, Dennis (Lois) Pacheco of Fallon, Nevada, and Patrick (Dana) Pacheco of Lompoc; 6 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

A Celebration of Life date is to be determined so that family can gather and honor her.
