IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Curtis Phenton
Baker
October 4, 1955 – May 10, 2019
Curtis Phenton Baker, 63, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2019, after a lengthy illness.
Curtis was born on October 4, 1955 to Karleene (Pryor) and John P. Baker. He was the fourth of five children. They came from the San Diego area to live in Santa Barbara/Goleta area in the 1960s. He graduated from San Marcos High School. He moved with his wife, Glenna, to Lompoc in 1988.
Curt was proud to be a Union (Local 501) Plumber, "Protecting the health of the nation." He was employed as a service and repair plumber at several plumbing companies in Santa Barbara and Goleta before joining Facilities Management at UCSB.
Before "4-5-Curt" became disabled, retired and eventually terminally ill with liver cancer, he enjoyed many hobbies and passions. He LOVED nature and science. He liked to fish and dive in the ocean. He rode motorcycles, a trials bike and dirt bikes. Years ago, he frequently went tent camping, hiking and mountain bike riding with family and friends. He was a reluctant traveler, but wanted to see historical sites, especially as they related to WWII. He completed many detailed models of WWII vehicles as well as models of classic cars. He was an excellent gardener, supplying the neighbors with delicious tomatoes and peppers. He still kept potted plants growing even as his own health declined.
Curtis leaves behind his beloved daughter, Molly Baker and wife, Glenna Baker, both of Lompoc, his mother Karleene Baker and sister Carolyn Sines (Dave) of Santa Barbara, brother, Jon Christopher (Karen) of Santa Ynez, and sister, Carleen (aka Candi) of Reno, NV as well as nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his brother Charlie and his golden retriever, Toby.
A memorial service will be held at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 2800 Harris Grade Road, Lompoc on May 29, 2019 at 1 PM.
In lieu of flowers, take a hike or a ride a bike off road. Or just stop and pick up a rock and look to see what's living under it.
