Obituary
Darlene E. Horne passed away Dec. 7, 2012, at Hoag Hospital, Irvine, California.
Darlene was born July 31, 1927, in Chickasaw, Iowa. She married Richard W. Horne on May 12, 1945 and had four children, Susan, Donna, Diana and Rick. She is survived by her daughters Susan and Diana, ten grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
As an Air Force wife she lived in a variety of places including Ellsworth AFB, South Dakota, Sidi Slimane Air Base, Morocco, Whiteman AFB, Missouri and Vandenberg AFB in California.
Darlene worked for the Red Cross for many years. She received numerous awards and recognition for the thousands of hours she served as a volunteer at the Food Pantry, Family Services at Vandenberg and for her 35 years of service as a docent at La Purisima Mission. In addition, she was an active member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Santa Maria, her church of many years. She will be missed by friends, family and those she helped along the way.
Visitation will be Wednesday, December 12, from 4 to 8 pm at Starbuck-Lind Mortuary in Lompoc. The graveside services to be held Thursday December 13 at 1 pm at Lompoc Cemetery followed by a memorial gathering at 2:30 pm at Bethel Lutheran Church, 624 East Camino Colegio in Santa Maria.
