Lompoc native and lifelong resident David Gaitan, 76, passed away Saturday, Nov 3, 2012 at Coastal View Health Care Center in Ventura. David was a veteran of the United States Air Force and longtime member of VFW Post 1717 and participant with the VFW Color Guard for several years. He was employed by Johns-Mansville Corporation and later became the leading representative for Electrolux Corp in Santa Barbara County where he received an abundant number of awards. Subsequently, he was employed by the Community Action Commission in Solvang, dedicated to helping the food bank, helped process the legalization of migrant workers, and frequently assisted with tax return preparations. David also was an avid supporter of veterans and rendered assistance to many and was never one to turn down anyone in need. David was primary in the establishment of "The Latinos Club" of Lompoc in the mid 50s.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Lupe Gaitan; brothers, Paul Jr., Raul Sr. John Sr. and sister, Helen. He is survived by brothers; Robert, Edward, Larry, and Daniel; sisters Dolores Hernandez and Gloria Terrones; children Lisa Lavelle and Trini David Dallons; four grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Vigil services will be 7 p.m. Monday, November 12 at the chapel of Starbuck-Lind Mortuary. Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the mortuary.
