Obituary

David James Loya, a faithful servant of the Lord, was called home to heaven on the morning of August 23, 2023. David, 78, was born in Santa Barbara, California on January 21, 1945, to his loving parents Raymond and Beatrice Loya.

He was a caring husband and loving father to his children James, Paul and Bernadette Loya, and Joseph, Michael, and Alicia Gonzales.

He is survived by his siblings Aurora Quintana, Daniel Loya, Edward Loya (Janice), and Dorothy Bruketta.  He is also survived by his grandchildren Paul Jr., Isaac Loya, Destiny, Jaqueline, Leilani La Shore, Saraya, Unique Rodriguez, Emily, Elijah, Raya Gonzales, Michael Jr., Benny Gonzales, Yesenia, Isiaah, Raymond, and Hayley Vega.

David was drafted into the United States Army where he proudly served his country and was honorably discharged.  After leaving the service, he worked at Pep Boys which started his passion for cars. He moved to Lompoc in 1975 where he started delivering the L.A. Times and started doing various projects for the company, from working on the company cars and collecting money from the stands to painting and repairing them.

From there he started taking classes at the Adult Education Center learning electronic assembly, TV, VCR and radio repair.  He excelled to the point that he became the teacher of the class.  He was also working a second job as a technician on special government projects at Raytheon. He was proud that he held one of the highest security clearances they have until he retired.

His son Paul lived with him from the age of 8 to 18. This is when he introduced him to the importance of having a relationship with the Lord! David's strong faith was a priority in his life for over 40 years at the Church of God of Prophecy.

David will be greatly missed for the unconditional love and kindness he showed to all, especially to his son Paul who devoted the last 7 years to caring for his "Pops1." The two of them were avid sports fans and enjoyed watching baseball, football, boxing and Nascar together.

Everyone who knew and loved him is welcome to pay respects at Starbuck-Lind Mortuary on Wednesday, September 20th at 10:00 a.m. Immediately following, he will be given full Military Honors at the cemetery. Afterwards, a Celebration of Life will be held at the Events Mission Valley building at 138 N. B Street (behind the mortuary).
