David Phillip Suchecki, 40, passed away on Sunday, December 28, 2008, at his home in Lompoc, after a battle with cancer. He was a soldier to the end.
David was born on November 11, 1968, to Ann and Theodore Suchecki, Jr. at Vandenberg AFB in Lompoc. Born to an air force family, David was raised and educated in Little Rock, Arkansas, Omaha, Nebraska, and Lompoc.
David graduated from Cabrillo High School with honors in 1986 and then attended Allan Hancock College in Santa Maria. He attended the University of California Santa Barbara from 1987 to 1993, majoring in nuclear engineering and geological sciences.
David worked as an engineering aide for IIT Federal Services Corporation at Vandenberg Air Force Base, a field office manager for Coast-to-Coast Analytical Services, Snelling Personnel Services, in Santa Barbara, and most recently as an administrative office professional for the General Services Risk Management of Santa Barbara County in Santa Barbara.
David joined the U. S. Army in 1996 and served on active duty with the 82nd Airborne Division until he was honorably discharged in 2000. He transitioned to the U. S. Army National Guard and served under "Operation Enduring Freedom" from 2005 to 2006. David was a current member of the California National Guard at the time of his death.
David received two Army commendation medals, six Army achievement medals, one Army Reserve component achievement medal, and one Enlisted Trainers' Excellence Ribbon in recognition of outstanding work.
David is survived by his wife of 20 months, Victoria; parents, Theodore and Ann Suchecki, Jr. of Lompoc, brother Christopher Suchecki of Lompoc, sister Sonja (Ethan) Gomes of San Diego, grandmother, Cecilia Zwiercan-Suchecki of Boston, Massachusetts, and three nephews.
A visitation will be held on Monday, January 5, 2009, from 3 to 8 pm, with a rosary at 5 pm, in the chapel of Starbuck-Lind Mortuary. A funeral mass will be held at Queen of Angels Catholic Church on Tuesday, January 6, 2009, at 10 am, followed by a full military honors burial at Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery.
