David L. Waxman, 66, surrounded by family and friends, left this earth and entered into everlasting life with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 20, 2017. He passed away after a brief illness.
Paul and Bonnie Waxman were blessed with the birth of their firstborn son, David, in Vallejo, California, on October 11, 1950. David grew up in American Canyon, California, with his sister Kathleen Waxman and brother John Waxman. David attended Napa Junction Elementary School, Ridgeview Junior High School, and graduated from Napa High School in 1968.
After high school, David served his country with the U. S. Air Force during the Viet Nam conflict. He was stationed in Germany for four years as a weapons mechanic. After his discharge in 1973, he worked as a Volkswagen parts salesman and a pipefitter for Mare Island.
On September 19, 1976, David rededicated his life to Jesus Christ. He attended Napa County Junior College and then transferred to Bethany Bible College in Santa Cruz, majoring in Music and Christian Education. While attending Bethany Bible College, he traveled with a singing group called "Love Life." He graduated from Bethany Bible College and attended Sonoma State and received his teaching credentials. David taught at Hilltop Christian School in Vallejo before moving to Santa Maria in 1986.
Most of his 33 years as an educator were spent teaching at Olga Reed School in Los Alamos, California. He started a tradition with his second-grade students making cardboard horse boxes and participating in the Los Alamos Old Days annual parade.
David loved music and started playing the guitar in high school where he played with several bands. He used this God-given musical talent, singing and playing in worship bands and directing choirs. He also sang with the Santa Maria Barbershop quartet.
In November 2002 David married Kathy Lariba. David and Kathy shared fourteen wonderful years together. When he married Kathy, he also became a part of Shane and Kannon Lariba's lives. David was also embraced by the entire Lariba family and very affectionately became known as "Uncle Dave."
In addition to music, David enjoyed traveling, camping and being with family, especially his grandchildren.
David was preceded in death by his first wife Alice Nelson Waxman, his brother-in-law Rev. Daniel Nelson, his brother-in-law Atilanto Lariba, and his father Paul David Waxman in 2003.
David is survived by his wife Kathy Waxman and his two sons, Shane Lariba (Selene) and Kannon Lariba (fiancée Sonia Alcantar and son Adrian Guzman) all of Orcutt, California. David also has three grandchildren whom he loved and cherished beyond measure: Cassandra Cavazos, Kash Lariba, and Mehkai Lariba. They were the light of his life!
Bonnie Waxman, David's mom, of American Canyon, California, also survives David along with his sisters Kathleen Waxman of Loomis, California, Suzette (Jerry) Compton of Colorado, and brother John (Kris) Waxman of Phoenix, Arizona.
David also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews as well as friends and extended family.
Memorial services will be held on Thursday, April 27, 2017, at 11 am at Pacific Christian Center, 3435 Santa Maria Way, Santa Maria, California. Following the memorial service there will be a celebration of life luncheon at the YOYO (Your Orcutt Youth Organization) Club, 725 East Foster Road, Santa Maria, California.
