David Harlow Winchell Sr. 70, died Saturday, July 23, 2016 at Lompoc Hospital following a long struggle with his health.
He leaves behind his wife of 50 years, Pat Winchell, children David Winchell, Jr., Estella Forbes, and Robert Winchell, sister Peggy Johnson, and nine grandchildren, Samantha, David III, Blake, Cody, Reese, Dylan, Abigail, Wyatt, and Emerson all of which he loved dearly.
David was born in Morrilton, Arkansas and raised by his parents Nadine and Arthur Winchell. He was a Polio survivor, and never let his disability stop him from anything he put his mind to. He received his high school diploma from Morrilton High School and graduated from the University of Central Arkansas with a bachelor's degree in history. He met his wife in Arkansas and they married in 1966. David was a health inspector for the state of Arkansas and also developed many homes in the Benton area until he and his family moved to Lompoc in 1979. He managed properties in the Santa Barbara and Tulare counties until his death and developed many lifelong friendships with his tenants and employees.
David had many hobbies and loved to drive around all day. He had his boating and pilots license, and spent his free time with his friends at the airport and harbor and loved to take his family sightseeing out on the ocean or flying around. He made friends wherever he went and was never shy to strike a conversation or crack a joke.
David loved his family and spent any moment he could with his children and grandchildren, equally spoiling them all. He would talk about his grandkids to anyone who would listen and will be dearly missed by everyone he left behind.
The funeral service will be held at Starbuck-Lind Mortuary in Lompoc on August 12, 2016 at 4:00 pm.
