Obituary

Debra Kathleen (Kathy) Martinez was born in Camp Pendleton, CA on April 30 1956 to James & Joanne Daugherty. As the daughter of a marine, she spent her early years moving from coast to coast, but as a teen she settled in El Toro California where she graduated from Mission Viejo High School in 1974. Kathy attended the University of California, Irvine and studied a year abroad in Madrid, Spain. Returning to the University of California, Santa Barbara she earned her Bachelor's Degree in Spanish in 1979. Kathy worked as a waitress for many years where she enjoyed serving and meeting new people. She had a passion for taking long walks, was an avid reader, and enjoyed the arts.
Kathy is survived by her two sons, Christopher and Ryan; her parents James and Joanne Daugherty, long time residents of Vandenberg Village now residing in Johnson City, TN; a brother, Shaun Daugherty of Johnson City, TN; and her sister Yvonne O'Neill of Mission Viejo, CA; as well as six nephews and a niece. Her memories bring joy to the family and she will be greatly missed.
Kathy struggled with anorexia for over 30 years and succumbed to the disease on January 22, 2010. May she now find peace in a heavenly place, free of disease.
A memorial service will be held in celebration of Kathy's life at Starbuck-Lind Mortuary, 123 North A Street Lompoc on February 26th at 2:00pm. Interment will follow at the Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery.
