Bishop Dell Rose of Lompoc passed away Monday, April 26, 2021, at the age of 87.
Dell was born May 6, 1933, in Checotah, Oklahoma to Dillard and Peggy Angeline Rose. His family moved to California when he was three years old. He served his country during the Korean Conflict in the United States Navy from 1951 to 1954. He graduated from Bakersfield College.
His ministry began in Lamont, California, he has been a resident of Lompoc since 1970. As a prominent evangelist and gospel singer in the late 1960's, he preached throughout the United States and also preaching and singing in the Philippines, Brazil and China. Dell became the founding Pastor of the First Apostolic Church in Lompoc in 1970 and served faithfully for 50 years, and then serving as the Bishop of the church this final year.
Dell raised, trained and showed Paso Fino horses for more than 30 years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Dell is survived by his wife of 66 years, Dorothy Jo Rose, and his daughter Deborah Lynne Hosken of Bakersfield.
The visitation will be Sunday, May 2, from 6-8 pm, at the First Apostolic Church of Lompoc, 921 North O Street. The home-going service will be at the church Monday, May 3, at 11 am. Interment with military honors will follow in the Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery.
