Dene DeBolt passed away peacefully on February 11, 2014 in Lompoc, California. He was born July 27, 1917 in Adrian, WA to Samuel Turley DeBolt and Mary Genevieve Lang DeBolt. Eventually the family moved to Valley, WA where they raised their 3 children.
Dene was the last surviving member of the 1934 graduating class of Valley High School. He attended St. Martin's College in Lacey, WA and graduated from the University of Washington in 1941. He served as a Lt. Commander in the U. S. Navy and was stationed at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, Washington Navy Yard, Puget Sound Navy Yard and Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.
In 1944 he married Lucile Regimbal in Yakima, WA. They lived in New York City and Bremerton, WA while Dene was still in the Navy. They settled in Lompoc in 1945 and raised their six children in a house they built with a group of Johns Manville co-workers.
Dene worked as a Chemical Engineer for Johns-Manville from 1945 – 1961. He went on to work at Lockheed Missile and Space Co. until 1984. He served as a Water Commissioner for the City of Lompoc in the early 1970s. He was a member of La Purisima Concepcion Catholic Church and was the last of the founding members of the Knights of Columbus La Purisima Council 3570.
Dene and Lu traveled extensively and loved visiting their grown children and grandchildren who are scattered around the country. They also visited many distant relatives in the U.S. and Canada while compiling a well researched family history. Dene loved to play golf and although he considered himself a duffer, he managed to make 3 Holes-in-One over the years.
Dene was preceded in death by his wife, Lu, his son Robert and his sisters, G. Ardath Cunningham and Myrna C. Roberts. He is survived by his daughters, Rita (Glen) Hendershot, Myrtle Beach, S.C., Mary Lu DeBolt, Santa Barbara, and sons, Richard (Maureen), San Jose, Mike (Sara), The Dalles, OR, and Joe (Vicky), Lompoc, as well as 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will take place Wednesday, February 19, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Starbuck-Lind Mortuary with Recitation of the Holy Rosary beginning at 6:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place Thursday February 20, 2014 at La Purisima Concepcion Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. with Father Tom Cook presiding Burial will follow at Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery.
