Diane Marie Aldridge, 85, of Lompoc passed on Sunday, April 23, 2023, at home surrounded by her family. Diane was born in Fortuna, California on January 19, 1938. She was the daughter of the late Edwin and Marie Betts and oldest sister to Marlene Snell (deceased), Dorothy Carlson, Ron Betts (deceased), Laura Sorenson (Walt), Dennis Betts (Diane), Nancy Austrus (Mike).
Diane grew up in Humboldt County where she graduated from Fortuna High School. She then attended Humboldt State College for one year before transferring to UC Berkeley (Cal). It was there that Diane met Lewis Aldridge while attending the Presbyterian Church in Berkeley and were married in 1958 in Scotia, CA. Lew was drafted and they spent two years at Dugway Proving Grounds in Utah before making the move to Lompoc in 1961.
Diane returned to finish her education while working and raising four sons and graduated from La Verne University in 1987 with a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting. Diane worked at the Caribou County Sun (Soda Springs, ID), The Lompoc Record, Perry's Auto Parts, Johns Manville, Santa Ynez Hospital and retired from Cottage Hospital in 2003.
Diane had a kind and generous heart and donated her time to the community of Lompoc in so many ways. She served on the boards for Lompoc Little League, Youth Football and Babe Ruth. She was a team mom and room mother for over two decades and received an honor for her volunteer work at Lompoc High School. She was an elder, deacon, head of finance and a member of the choir at the Presbyterian Church.
Diane enjoyed traveling with special friends and family, especially Wally and Audrey Kent, driving around the US or cruising the Mediterranean, East Coast, Caribbean, Hawaii, Tahiti and Alaska. She also vacationed each year in Palm Springs and Kauai.
Diane was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a friend who will be missed by her family and all who knew her.
She is survived by her children, Lewis Aldridge III (Sheryl) of Lompoc, Lawrence Aldridge (Cindy) of Ajo, AZ; Dan Aldridge (Diana) of Lompoc, and Joseph of Bend, OR; 11 grandchildren, Michael Aldridge (Jamie) of Arroyo Grande, Larissa Morgan (Bryce) of Okinawa, Japan, Breena Seres (David) of St. Petersburg, FL, Ryan Aldridge of Lompoc, Casey Aldridge of Fresno, Sawyer Aldridge of San Antonio, TX, Kiley Shae Allen (Sean) of Thousand Oaks, Shelby Gil (Luis) of Henderson, NV, Jeffrey Aldridge (Annalise) of Santa Maria, Tancy Aldridge of Billings MN, and Ash Aldridge, of Bend, OR; Eleven great-grandchildren, Beth, Liam and Lucy Morgan of Okinawa, Austyn, Micaiah and Josiah Aldridge of Arroyo Grande, Levi and Jonah Gil of Henderson, Zoey Allen of Thousand Oaks, North and Hart of Santa Maria.
The Aldridge family would like to thank the staff at Lompoc Valley Medical Center as well as the VNA Hospice staff that helped care for her.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, May 6th at the Cityview Community Church, 1600 Berkeley Drive in Lompoc. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Mookie Betts charity - https://www.the5050foundation.org
