Obituary
Dianne Margaret Barker will long be remembered for her laughter, her smile and her great warmth. She was a friend to the many people who surrounded her.
On August 8, 1964, Dianne was born to Wayne Frederick and Margaret Ellen Royce in St. Louis, Missouri. She was their second daughter. The family moved to Lompoc in 1968 when Dianne was three years old, then to Santa Barbara two years later. Educated in Santa Barbara schools, she graduated from Dos Pueblos High School in 1982. After earning her AS Degree at Santa Barbara City College, she next passed the State Board exam to become a Registered Nurse.
For the last fifteen years, Dianne enjoyed working in the OB Department at Lompoc Hospital. Taking care of the newborn babies brought her much satisfaction and happiness. Her co-workers were her best friends.
In 1988, Dianne married Mark Barker. Together they raised their two daughters, Margaret (Megan) and Molly. She enjoyed being a mother and spending time with her children. She was very proud of both girls and their accomplishments.
Dianne liked people and was a very good listener. She was encouraging and comforting to others. Activities that she found pleasure in were gardening, swimming, reading and sewing. She made Halloween costumes for her daughters each year. She also enjoyed watching "Ellen" on TV and relaxing with friends.
Dianne died at home on March 15, 2010. She is survived by daughters, Margaret and Molly Barker; father, Wayne F. Royce all of Lompoc; sister, Celeste Royce of Massachusetts; aunt, Sue Martin of St. Louis, Missouri; uncle, Charles Martin of San Diego, CA; and Mark N. Barker of Lompoc. Her mother, Margaret E. Royce in 1981, preceded her in death. All who knew her will miss her.
Services will be held at Starbuck-Lind Mortuary, 123 North A Street, on Saturday, March 27, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will precede the service from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Interment will be private.
Memorial contributions in Dianne's name may be made to the American Red Cross, 222 W. Carmen Ln., #102, Santa Maria, CA 93458.
