It is with much sadness we announce the passing of Donald George Palmer. He was born February 15, 1924, in Rochester, New York. He passed away Friday, June 27, 2014, in Lompoc, California. He was 90 years old.
Don met his wife Betty on a blind date where they fell in love. Soon after he left to serve in the Army overseas for three years and four months. Betty waited for him and they married as soon as he returned. Then, comparing pictures, they discovered she sat next to him in their kindergarten picture. They were married 67 years. That's longer than either of their parents lived. Betty preceded Don in death on October 31, 2013.
Don was an active member with the Elk's Lodge for 29 years. He also loved to sing and was a member of the Lompoc Master Coral for many years. He sang bass in the First Presbyterian Church choir when he, along with Ken Wicks, Vern Freeley and Al Godden started a Barbershop Quartet that soon developed into the Gents-In-A-Cord men's chorus who are still active today.
He is survived by his two sons Jeff and David, grand children Braden and Maureen, daughters-in law Holly and Karin, step grandchildren William, Michael, April (married to Zach McDonald) and John Norling…and his Parakeet Pete.
Don and Betty were as one. They loved and were very dedicated to God, their family and friends. They valued service to God and the community, and were loved by many.
A Memorial Service will take place on Saturday, July 19th at 1:00 pm at Peace Lutheran Church ELCA, 1000 West Ocean Street in Lompoc.
Private interment will be in the Lompoc Cemetery. The arrangements are under the direction of Starbuck-Lind Mortuary.
