Father, husband, loving partner and friend, Donald Irving Green born in Portland, OR on April 15, 1930, passed peacefully into eternal life on December 6, 2009.
Don graduated from Washington High School in 1948 and attended Vanport College before enlisting in the US Navy in 1948 where he served 3 years – including 22 months in the Far East during the Korean War. After the Navy, he enrolled at Oregon State University where he was a member of the Alpha Tao Omega Fraternity. He graduated in 1956 with a BS in Business Administration. While at OSU Don was introduced to Bonnie Jane Wyss, a beautiful brunette who became his wife on June 16, 1956. Married for 35 years they raised 2 daughters and enjoyed the Oregon Coast, Central Oregon and working together at their company, Trading Post Realty. Don's working years led him down many fascinating career paths including employment with Mobil Oil, working in Industrial Sales, selling real estate and owning/brokering Trading Post Realty in Lake Oswego.
Professional affiliations included a charter membership in the Tualatin Rotary Club, past directorship in Boones Ferry Commercial Club and the Clackamas County Board of Realtors. He was also a long-time member of the Elks Club and The Lions Club.
Don had many friends whom he kept up with over the years. He enjoyed activities such as fishing, boating, hiking, skiing, flying, was an avid reader and was known for sharing funny jokes. One of Don's most favorite outdoor activities was drift boating down the Deschutes River with his buddies. After Bonnie's death in 1991, Don was blessed to reconnect with Theodora "Teddi" Fuller of Lompoc, CA. Teddi was Bonnie's best friend at WA High and all of them knew each other for years. Teddi brought love and laughter into Don's life and with her he got to fulfill his life dream of travelling through the Panama Canal, going to Spain and seeing the pyramids of Egypt – just to name a few of the places they visited together in the past 18 years. Don and Teddi divided their time between Don's home in Sister's, OR and Teddi's home in Lompoc, CA.
Wonderful friends and continuing activities with Teddi kept Don going strong as he battled a very aggressive form of Prostate Cancer for 13 years
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Carl E. Green and Florence S. Mercer and his wife, Bonnie. He is survived by loving daughters Darcy Baker (Gary) Lake Stevens, WA and Barbara Kittelson (David) Tucson, AZ, grandchildren Adam, Avery, Peter & Carly, loving partner and soul mate Teddi Fuller (Lompoc, CA), and brother Stanley Green (Joan) of Bend, OR.
A Memorial Service will be held summer of 2010 in the Portland area (date/location to be determined). In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Don's memory to The American Cancer Society for Prostate Cancer Research.
