Obituary

Donald J. Tracy, Lt Col (Ret) USAF (Jerry) died November 10, 2015, at the age of 92.

Jerry was born to Harold and Adlai Tracy August 9, 1923, in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania. He joined two older brothers, Dick and Ted. He graduated from Waynesburg High School in 1941, and went on to Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania where he was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1943; in March 1945 he flew a troop glider over the Rhine River, a successful mission.

After the war, Jerry returned to Bucknell to complete his education. He graduated in 1948, with a degree in Civil Engineering. During this time he met a war widow, Jeannette Barnes (Jeb) who had a 4-year-old daughter, Bobbie. Jerry and Jeb were married in August 1948. For the next three years he pursued one of his greatest loves—building highways. In 1951, at the beginning of the Korean War he was recalled into the Air Force and remained on active duty until his retirement in June 1973.

Jerry and Jeb were stationed all over the world ad he had many assignments but his favorite was as an Aircraft Commander on a B-47 at Little Rock AFB 1955-1959. After retirement from the USAF, Jerry worked for several Shuttle contractors at the Cape and at Vandenberg finally retiring for good in 1986. And he never stopped flying—from 1943 until a few months before he his death he flew—Waco glider, C-47, B-47, Cessnas and his last plane, an Ercoupe.

Jerry was predeceased by his wife, Jeb, in 2009. He is survived by his daughter, Bobbie Moore of Everett, Washington, two grandsons, Todd Randolph (Lysa) of Marysville, Washington, and Dane Randolph (Patricia) of Vandenberg Village, and three great-grandchildren. So much love and appreciation to Dane and Trish for their complete care and devotion to Jerry for the past six years.
