Donald G. McIntyre, better known as "Mac," passed away August 29, 2006, in Santa Maria at the age of 87.
Mac was born October 27, 1918, to Samuel and Myra McIntyre in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. There he was raised and educated. He joined the United States Army "to see the world" and was stationed in the South Pacific and the North Atlantic during WWII.
After the war, Mac returned to Pennsylvania and purchased an 80-acre farm where he and his wife, the former Gezena Cloke, raised their family. In 1962, while on a vacation to visit relatives in California, Mac and his family discovered Lompoc and decided to stay. He was employed as an engineer at Douglas Aircraft at Vandenberg Air Force Base and later worked for Burpee Seed Company and Aceco Rentals in Lompoc.
Mac loved to fish and made several fishing trips to Mexico. He sang in a local barbershop quartet and was a member of the Half Century Club. He was the Lompoc Flower Festival king in 2005.
His daughters Elaine West of Santa Barbara and Diane Beechly of Bakersfield; son, William G. McIntyre of Nipomo, and six grandchildren survive Mac. He was preceded in death by his wife Gezena and his brother Robert in 2003.
Cremation will be followed by private inurnment in the Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery.
