Donnie Hugh Scruggs was born February 13, 1936, in Casa Grande, Arizona, one of 11 children born to Matthew and Lois L. Scruggs. He was preceded in death by his parents, his ten siblings, two sons Stephen and Kevin, and granddaughter Janelle. He is survived by his wife Maedru Scruggs of 40 years, sons Emitte (Yvonne), Donnie E (Sharon), Jai (Rabihuh), Corey (Denise), daughter Jamecia, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also leaves behind a host of nephews, nieces, grand nephews and nieces, friends, church family and a Community that he loved. He will be missed by many extended family members and friends.
The family relocated to Madera, California where Donnie attended school. He joined the Air Force at the age of 18 where he was trained as a Cryptologist. He moved to Lompoc in 1967, where he joined and served at True Vine Baptist Church in various ministries. He was also well known in the community as the Commissioner of Youth Football and Baseball.
He was a loving son, husband, brother, father, uncle and friend. He was an awesome mentor for many.
He had a calming spirit, humorous and laidback attitude. Never really got excited about things unless it was involving sports. He will always be remembered by his numerous alias: Pop, Dad, Grandpa, Poppa D, Mr. Poppa Donnie, Mr. Don, Donald, Scruggs, D, Godfather and Uncle.
His smile and spirit lives on and will never be forgotten.
