After a courageous battle with leukemia, Lompoc native Doris Clark passed away on July 2, 2008 with her loving son Duane by her side.
Doris was born March 31, 1922 to Meinard and Lucy Kalin who were dry land lima bean farmers on the Jalama. She was the fourth of five children born to the couple. She attended the one room Jalama school. The family moved to Lompoc during the depression and Doris finished her schooling there, graduating from Lompoc High School in 1940.
Doris worked at the Lompoc Light and Water Department from 1942 to 1945. During this time she met David Clark of Riverside. They married April 12, 1945 and made their home on West Pine in Lompoc. Two children were born to this union; Diane Lynne in April of 1946 and Duane Benjamin in May of 1949.
Doris and David bought the Clark Ranch (originally the Badger Place) in 1962. Doris spent her days working as a ranch wife raising cattle. She was also very fond of her horses. After her husband David passed away in 1990, she continued to live on the ranch. She remained independent until 2007 when she moved to the Lodge of Lompoc.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband David, brothers Edward, Lloyd, and Ray, and sister Dorothy.
Survivors include her daughter Diane Hall, son Duane Clark, grandson Lowry and his wife Heather and their three children, three sisters-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held Thursday, July 17, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at the Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery. A reception will follow from 12:00 p.m. to 2pm at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1312 W. Prune Ave., Lompoc.
