Dorothy L. Alexander of Lompoc died Monday, November 30, 2009, at the age of 56.

Dorothy was born September 16, 1953 to Michael and Catherine Thumm in Great Falls, Montana. She graduated from Great Falls High School with the class of 1972.

As an Air Force wife of 24 years, Dorothy formerly lived in Montana, Arizona and Nebraska. Dorothy has been a resident of Lompoc since 1993. From 1994 to 2002 she ran Dorothy's Day Care from her home, helping to raise a generation of Lompoc youth. She was employed as a customer care supervisor at Core Oncology in Santa Barbara for the last eight years.

Dorothy's passion was for her children and grandchildren. She loved to shoot pool, dance and enjoyed the outdoors. She was very proud of her Native American heritage. She attended church at Trinity Church of the Nazarene and Lompoc Foursquare Church.

Dorothy is survived by her companion of six years Donald Newby, daughter Misty Powers of Lompoc, son Michael Alexander of Lompoc, grandchildren Joey and Jake Hernandez, Makayla and Mattilyn Powers, Michael Alexander, Jr., Lyric and Cheyenne Alexander, stepson Tim Newby of Lompoc and his children Anthony, Ava and Eli Newby, stepdaughter Stephanie Montoya of Silver City New Mexico and her children Shawn, Clarissa and Gabby Montoya, stepson Tom Newby of Silver City, New Mexico and his children Vincent, Christopher and Addison Newby, the father of Dorothy's children Frank Alexander of Austin, Texas, and numerous brothers and sisters in Montana and Arizona.

The memorial service will be on Thursday, December 3, 2009, at 11 am in the Starbuck-Lind Mortuary chapel led by Pastor Duane Armstrong. Cremation will be followed by private inurnment.
