Obituary

On Sunday, September 11, 2022, Dorothy Lenora Cunningham, loving wife, and mother, passed away at the age of 78, in Lompoc, California.

Dorothy was born on May 11, 1944, to Joseph (Shelby) and Nettie Freeman in Sacramento, California.  She attended Sacramento area schools before moving to Clovis, California with her family.  Dorothy graduated from Clovis High School where she met her husband of 61 years, William, Cunningham.  Together they raised a son, Keven.

Dorothy worked for many years at the office of Dr. Eugene Lowe in Fresno, California where she was loved and respected by the patients.  She was very artistic, winning several blue ribbons for her porcelain (China) painting.  Dorothy will be remembered as a loving wife and mother, a woman with an abundant sense of style and talent, someone who was not afraid to try something new, made the best pumpkin roll cake ever, and for her strong political views but most of all, for love of God and family and her kind and compassionate spirit.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her father and mother Joseph and Nettie Freeman, son Keven James Cunningham, sisters Glenna Baungart, Alma Lawless, and brother-in-law Gerald Lawless.

She is survived by her loving husband William J. Cunningham of Lompoc, California, sister Linda Freeman of Washington; sister-in-law Candy (Alan) Axt of Madera, California; brother-in-law Chris (Sarey) Cunningham of Clovis, California; nieces Carolyn (Michael) Montanez, Beth (Dustin) Rogers of Fresno, California and many more cousins, nephews, nieces, and great nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, October 8, 2022, at the Church of Christ Lompoc at 11 a.m.

Remembrances may be sent to the Church of Christ Lompoc, 138 N. O Street, Lompoc, California 93436.
