Dorothy Irene Cooper Emmons was born January 12, 1924 to Harold Webster Cooper and Susan Elsie Howerton Cooper in Lompoc. She attended Lompoc High School, graduating in 1942.
She met her husband, the late Clark Russel Emmons, while attending high school. Dorothy and Clark married on June 14, 1943, in Buzzard's Bay Massachusetts, just before he shipped out to serve in WWII.
She played the organ and taught Sunday school for the First Baptist Church on J & Cypress.
She worked at Dan's Cycle and Sports Center, as well as J.C. Penny's.
Dorothy greatly enjoyed cooking, serving as a 4-H leader for just that.
She loved gatherings of family and friends. She baked countless desserts and provided endless dishes for brandings and get-togethers.
Dorothy was an avid gardener. She grew vegetables, fruit, and flowers. She canned every growing season.
She loved Christmas Carnations, irises, and roses; fresh flowers were always abundant in her home.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband, Clark Emmons and grandson Robert Clark Emmons.
Dorothy is survived by her three children, Russel Emmons (wife Barbara), Shirley Emmons, and Ron Emmons (wife LaDona); six grandchildren, Steve, Michael, Bradley, Amy, Rusty, and Kain; as well as seven great-grandchildren, Stephanie, Cassie, Riley, Kenny, Anna, Katelyn, Jimmy, Luke, and Nathan; and one great-great grandson, Kiva.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, January 24th at 10 am at Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery.
