Obituary

Dorothy passed away Friday, August 5th at the Lodge of Lompoc surrounded by her friends there.

Dorothy was born September 17, 1917 in Phillips, Nebraska to Otto and Mae Scharnow. She and her husband Carl lived in Denver, Colorado with their four children until 1955. The family moved to Long Beach, where they resided until 1959. They then moved to the FCI in Lompoc where Carl's job as a training officer took them. In 1962, they moved to Silver Springs, Maryland, where Carl worked for the Federal Bureau of Prisons. Dorothy worked in the credit department of JC Penny's for ten years.

Her divorce in 1972 brought Dorothy back to her favorite daughter, Carol Minor. Dorothy was employed for 16 years as a telecommunications operator in Santa Ynez. Due to health problems Dorothy moved to the Lodge of Lompoc in 1994 where she resided until her death.

Dorothy was the guiding light and the rock for her family. Her cheerful nature and deep-rooted Midwest honesty was an inspiration to her family and friends.

Dorothy is survived by her four children, Carol Minor of Lompoc, Rhonda Furmanski of Greenbelt, Maryland, Martin (Rene) Furmanski of Bountiful, Utah, Debra (Jay) Johnson of McCalla, Alabama, nine grandchildren, Karen (Kevin) Cox, Kathy (Alex Cavanillas) Minor-Chaves, Dawn (Jerry) Johnson-Franklin, Randy (Tawnie) McKinney, R.C. Johnson, Blair (Elsie) Furmanski, Brady Furmanski, Brooke Furmanski and Bailey Furmanski, six great grandchildren, Chelsea Cox, Ashley Cox, Austin Cox, Derek Chaves, Diego Terrones, Shelby McKinney, and Jackson McKinney and one great-great grandchild Aiden Cox.

The visitation was held Tuesday, August 9, at Starbuck-Lind Mortuary.

Dorothy's family would like to thank Dr. Gregerson, the staff at Lompoc Clinic, the Lompoc Hospital and her many friends at the Lodge of Lompoc who saw to her every need and who loved her dearly.

Mother, "You are missed."
