Obituary

Dorothy I. Lind, age 94 and a lifelong resident of Moline and Rock Island, died on Monday July 4, 2011 at the Red Bud Nursing Home in Red Bud, Illinois where she had resided for the past three months.

Memorial services are 11:30am Saturday at South Park Presbyterian Church, 1501 30th Street, Rock Island with the Rev. Kenn Shedenhelm officiating. Visitation is from 4 to 7 pm on Friday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island. A private family burial will be held at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline.

A native of Moline, Dorothy was born Nov. 6, 1916 to Enoch and Bernhardina Gustafsson Peterson, emigrants from Sweden. She graduated from Moline High School and had been an employee of Royal Neighbors of America in her earlier years and also at the YWCA in food service in the 1950's. She married Lester H. Lind in 1942 while he was on leave while serving with the U. S. Army. Soon following his discharge they made their home in Rock Island where they raised their three children.

Dorothy was a member of South Park Presbyterian Church where she was active with United Presbyterian Women and a Bible study circle. She was also an avid card player. After her husband retired from John Deere they enjoyed traveling and ballroom dancing at the Coliseum in Davenport for many years. She moved to Waterloo, IL over a year ago following the death of her husband of 66 years in December of 2008, to be nearer to most of her family.

In addition to her husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Lillian Gregory and Margaret Eaton and a brother, Eric. Survivors include her son, Patrick Lind of Tampa, FL, daughters, Betty (Larry) Hood and Nancy Weiford both of Waterloo, IL; granddaughters, Amber (Mark) Vogel, Erin (Ramsey) Stampp and Lindsay Weiford; great-grandchildren, Taylor Mulherin, Corey Vogel and Ramsey J. Stampp; two nieces and a nephew and their families.

Dorothy's family is especially grateful to their parent's neighbors, Dave and Cindy Hanegmon for the many years of neighborly friendship who were always present to help them with their needs during their later years.

Memorials are preferred to South Park Presbyterian Church.
