Obituary

Dorothy Elizabeth McCarty

March 18, 1920 – January 8, 2011

"Dotty" was born in Pasadena, California and moved at six months of age to Santa Barbara with her parents Helen and Dave Staples.

She was raised and educated in Santa Barbara, graduating from Santa Barbara College in 1942 with a degree in education.

She married Richard T. Saxe in 1944. She became the wife of an Army Air Corp pilot and did a lot of traveling! Their only child was born in 1946, Victoria Lynn Saxe.

Dotty always taught school, beginning with kindergarten and then mostly first grade elementary school.

She remarried Dr. Joe McCarty in 1963. They lived in San Bernardino for many years. She retired from teaching at the age of 68 years. She and her husband moved to Gordonville, Texas in 1994 where Joe was raised and remained there until his death in November of 2009. She returned to Lompoc and lived with her daughter and son-in-law until July of 2010 when she was moved to Lompoc Skilled and Rehab Center. Thank you staff and nurses for the compassion and care she was given.

Her greatest joy in life was her family (her Babies). She is survived by her daughter Victoria (Dean) Clouse, (other daughter) granddaughter Traci E. (John) Soby, grandson James R. (Misty) Clouse, great granddaughters Arielle E Koury and Morgan V. Murray, great grandson Gavin J. Clouse and her "best friends for a lifetime" Nancy Pearson and Marcia Calvert.

She leaves a legacy of teaching hundreds of children to read and write!

She was preceded in death by her parents Dave and Helen Staples, her first husband Richard T. Saxe and second husband Dr. Joe McCarty.

The private graveside will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Lompoc.

Funeral arrangements are in the care of Starbuck-Lind Mortuary.
