IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dorothy Ann
Nancy Thompson Guthrie
January 31, 2003 – October 28, 2022
Dorothy Ann Nancy Thompson Guthrie was born on January 31, 2003, in Lompoc, California. She passed away at the age of 19 on October 28, 2022, and is survived by her parents Patrick and Kathy Guthrie; grandmother Nancy Thompson; grandfather Hugh Guthrie; uncle and aunt John Thompson and Cindy Allen; aunt and uncle Elizabeth and Victor Mangler; cousins Jessica, Angela, and Theresa Mangler; uncle and aunt Ralston and Carol Creswell; cousins Courtney and Morgan Creswell; Harris family relatives from Virginia; Thompson family relatives from Indiana, Virginia, and Southern California; Snyder family relatives from all across the country; and many friends.
Following her 2021 graduation from Cabrillo High School, Dorothy aspired to harness her writing talents and confident presence that could command a room by following in her mother's footsteps as a teacher. While at home, she enjoyed watching movies with her family, as well as playing school and practicing Spanish with her grandmother. Several of her summers spent at the Thompson family farm in Indiana during her childhood years gave her the opportunities to meet and bond with extended family while experiencing a different environment from her home in California. When on the occasional visit to her relatives in Missouri, she loved going to the lake and spending time in the water, always saving time for one last quick shopping trip at the outlet malls before returning home.
Drawing strength and support as a social butterfly, Dorothy maintained a broad social circle and could often be found on adventures with her friends, where her fun-loving, goofy personality shone brightly. With an affinity for dressing up, tattoos, and long bedazzled nail sets, she could often be found attending concerts and looked forward every year to celebrating her favorite holiday, Halloween. As an avid listener of trap music, she relished being the first to discover the next new artist bursting onto the scene. Her compassionate nature was evident in her love of animals that started from a young age with the gift of a stuffed cat from her uncle John and aunt Cindy, leading her to repeatedly try to convince her parents to bring more cats home. She had a special fondness for Milo, the cat she managed to sneak in despite her parents' protests (though they soon came to similarly adore him), also cherishing the late family Dachshunds Sparky and Mr. Noodles. The combination of her love of animals and her charisma even led her to convince her grandmother to adopt a cat named Tiger.
She will be forever missed, but we are grateful that we had 19 wonderful years with her. A visitation ceremony will be held from 4pm to 7pm on Friday, November 4th at Starbuck-Lind Mortuary (123 N A St., Lompoc, CA), followed by a funeral service at 10:30am on Saturday, November 5th at First United Methodist Church (925 North F St., Lompoc, CA). Dorothy's burial service will be at a later date at the Thompson Home Cemetery in Warren, IN.
In lieu of flowers, Dorothy's family asks that you donate to CAPA (Compassionate Animal Placement Assistance) at lompocCAPA.org.
