DOROTHY ANN RUIZ
1932-2008
Long-time Lompoc resident Dorothy Ann Ruiz passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, November 18, 2008. Born in Reading, Michigan, on February 8, 1932, Dorothy moved to Lompoc in 1959. A devoted wife and mother, Dorothy was married to Louis R. Ruiz for 57 years until his death in 2003. In the process of raising her family in the valley, Dorothy was involved in many activities involving her husband and children – camping, fishing, traveling, sightseeing, cruising, watching sporting events, as well as volunteering with Campfire Girls, Lompoc Youth Football League, and numerous school activities. In later years, she enjoyed spending time with her friends at the Lompoc Senior Center. She was an avid reader who also loved to shop, cook, sew, and garden. Her family and friends will also remember her as a devoted Los Angeles Dodger fan that rarely missed listening to their games on the radio.
Dorothy is survived by her brother, Robert Garver of Meadville, Arizona, and five children, Kenneth R. Ruiz of Franktown, Colorado; Sharon A. Van Vleck of Sacramento; Marilyn J. Machado, Nancy J. Hummer, and Larry R. Ruiz of Lompoc; two son-in-laws, William Hummer and Tony Machado Jr. of Lompoc; and a daughter-in-law, Debbie Ruiz of Franktown, Colorado. She also had five grandchildren, Tony Machado III of Haleiwa, Hawaii; Jolene (Hummer) Cagianut of Parker, Colorado; Rachel and Ashley Ruiz of Franktown, Colorado; Alison Hummer of Lompoc; and two great-grand children, Hayden and Kiley Cagianut of Parker, Colorado.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, November 26, 2008, at 11:00 am at Starbuck-Lind Mortuary, 123 North A Street, Lompoc, CA.
Dorothy will be inurned with the remains of her beloved husband, Louis, in a private ceremony at Lompoc Cemetery.
