Douglas Lee Huyck, formerly of Lompoc, died Monday, February 4, 2008, at his home in Ventura at the age of 47.

Doug was born May 3, 1960, in Lompoc to William and Deloris Huyck. He was a fifth generation descendant of Lompoc pioneer A.L. Huyck. He graduated from Lompoc High School in 1978 and attended Allan Hancock College. He transferred to Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo and majored in graphic arts. After completing his education, he worked as a copier repair technician in Lompoc and the Bay area for many years. For the last five years, he was employed as the manager of Sun Coast Equipment Rentals in Carpinteria.

Doug enjoyed skiing and golf. He especially loved to spend time with his nieces and nephews. He enjoyed life and made everything he did fun. He was a good friend who was greatly loved and who will be greatly missed.

Doug is survived by his parents and his siblings and their spouses, Teresa and Matt Prewitt of Lompoc, Andy and Kristi Huyck of Atascadero, Judy and Danny Gaitan of Carlsbad, David and Annie Huyck of Goleta, Paul and Cheryl Huyck of Clovis, Sheila and Franz Davis of Lompoc, and Dorothy and Troy Civitillo of Athens, Ohio, 15 nieces and nephews and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is also survived by his dear friends, Mike Dunaetz and his wife Teresa, Gary Michels and his wife Jen, and Richie Poque and his wife Laura.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Dorothy and Lawrence Huyck, his maternal grandparents, Opal Jones and James Byford, and his step grandfather, Lee Jones.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, February 11, 2008, at 10 AM at the Trinity Church of the Nazarene, 500 E. North Avenue in Lompoc. Cremation will be followed by private inurnment. Arrangements are under the direction of Starbuck-Lind Mortuary.
