Duane Lewis Royal, passed away October 19, 2006.
Born on July 8, 1927, in West Unity, Ohio. Duane was the first child of Simeon and Lulu Belle Royal. He attended the University of Illinois and graduated with a degree in Industrial Administration in May, 1951. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1945-46, and the U.S. Marine Corps from 1951-53.
Duane married Roma Black on September 29, 1954 in Los Angeles, CA. He returned to school in 1955, and while working as a radar mechanic at Northrop Aircraft and helping raise a young family, he earned a degree in Electrical Engineering, graduating from USC in 1960. He worked as an Electrical Engineer until he retired from ITT Gilfillan in 1982.
He was a private pilot and a favorite activity was family flying vacations to many destinations across the United States and Canada. In 1988 Duane and Roma completed construction on their current home in Lompoc, Duane having done the majority of the work himself.
Duane was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and he and Roma served a Church mission in Athens, Greece from 1982-1984. Duane was known for being a hard worker, a direct and engaging speaker and his eagerness to help others.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Lenore Fleming. He is survived by his wife, Roma, son Gary, and daughter-in-law Patricia, daughter Debra and son-in-law Brent Newbold, son Bradford, and daughter-in-law Ronda, his brother Lowell Royal and sister-in-law Eileen, brother Joe Royal, brother-in-law Floyd Black and his wife Fern, and 13 grandchildren.
Services will be held at 1:00 pm Monday October 23, 2006 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Prune St. in Lompoc, CA. In lieu of flowers please send a donation to your favorite charity in Duane's honor.
