Obituary

Ed Knowles was born January 26, 1942 in Wilkinsburg, PA and passed November 5, 2010 in Lompoc, CA. He is survived by Wendy, his wife of 38 years;
daughter Paula Marshall and her husband Terry of Boise, ID; son Brad Knowles and his wife Heather of Cayucos, CA; son Craig Knowles and his wife Meredith of Lompoc; grandchildren Kylee and CJ Marshall and Grayson Knowles; brother William Knowles and his wife Linda of Upland, CA; sister Jean Gullick and her husband Chris of Hesperia, CA; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents and two siblings.

Ed moved with his family from Pennsylvania to the Los Angeles area where he attended El Monte High School. He was one of the few athletes honored to play in the 1959 North-South All-Star Shrine football game. After his
impressive high school football career, Ed was recruited by the University of Utah and played 4 years as both an offensive and defensive starting
player.

In 1966 Ed was hired to teach and coach at Cabrillo High School (which had just opened). For the next 35 years he was a dedicated member of the CHS staff. He met his wife Wendy in 1971 when she joined the Cabrillo staff.
Together they raised their children in Lompoc.

Ed was a genuinely humble, soft-spoken man who touched the lives of many athletes and students throughout his career. He was respected by his colleagues as well as his opponents.

As a family man, Ed was a dedicated son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather who set everlasting examples of honesty, devotion, love and hard
work for his children, grandchildren and all who knew him.

In his spare time, Ed enjoyed honing his skills in the woodshop making handcrafted furniture, wooden bowls and holiday items. It brought him great
joy sharing those items with friends and family. These items will forever be cherished by those who received them. As a member of the Village Country
Club, he also enjoyed perfecting his skills on the golf course. For those who played with him, he was known as a quiet but fierce competitor.

Ed will be remembered and cherished by many. A celebration of Ed's life will be held in Lompoc at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations can
be made in Ed's honor to the Lompoc Hospital Foundation (P. O. Box 883, Lompoc, CA 93438) or the Cabrillo High School Football Program (4350
Constellation Road, Lompoc, CA 93436).
