Edith Louise Berkey Cyrus was born in Burns Wyoming to Henry Oliver Berkey and Elsie Calle Loehr Berkey October 13, 1927. The family moved to Sheridan, Oregon when Edith was 12 years old. As a young adult, she worked at Lamont Glove Factory for 2 years in McMineville, Oregon.
Edith met her husband Tom in Central Oregon and they married on June 16, 1946. They moved to Lompoc in 1961 where she went to work for J.C. Penney's retiring in September of 1989 after 25 years with the company. She was an avid bowler and bowled on the J.C. Penney's league team for several years. Edith and her husband were very active in serving Calvary Baptist Church for many years.
Edith is survived by her children Vernon (Linda) Cyrus, Koreen (David) Donnelly and Teresa (Jay) Maddock; 8 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, 10 step great grandchildren, 1 step great great grandchildren, 2 sisters Sherry (Steckly) Keesecker, Ellen (Harold) Miller, brothers Marvin Berkey and Ralph (Pat) Berkey, and several other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Tom; parents, son, Noel; grandson, Kyle Maddock; 1 sister and 2 brothers.
A funeral service will be held on Friday May 6 at 11 am at Calvary Baptist Church, Vandenberg Village.
