Obituary

Edlyn (Lynn) Karisch Mathis

Lynn went to the Arms of her Savior May 8, 2012, at the age of 76. She was born to Lydia and Oswald Karisch on July 25, 1935, in Winchester, Texas. She was baptized, confirmed, and married in St. Michael's Lutheran Church in Winchester. She met Joseph M. Mathis in Austin, Texas and they were married in 1954.

She graduated from La Grange High School, and received a Bachelor's degree from LaVerne College in California. They traveled to various military bases: Spokane, Washington; Denver, Colorado; Lake Charles, Louisiana; Zaragoza, Spain; Madrid Spain; Tucson, Arizona; and finally retiring in Lompoc, California.
Lynn retired after 20 years of service with Martin Marietta Corporation in 1992 as Administrator of Compensation. After retiring from Martin and traveling for five years, she worked part-time as Office Assistant for the City Airport for eight years. She and her husband traveled throughout Europe, particularly enjoying the Oberammergau Passion play in Germany, and a lot of golfing in Hawaii. She also loved golfing at Village Country Club and playing bridge with her friends. She was a great fan of Civic Light Opera and PCPA performances.
She enjoyed flying with her husband in their Cessna Cardinal 177RG to New Cuyama for buffalo burgers, Columbia, Catalina Island, Mesa Arizona and multiple trips to visit their daughter in Madera, California. She even passed her FAA exam with flying colors and ended up a good navigator instead of a pilot due to her heart problems.
Lynn was very active in her church, Bethany Lutheran Church, in Lompoc. She sang in the choir for 45 years. She also participated in quilting and knitting, attended Bible class and served on the Altar Guild.
There are not enough words to characterize the sincere and loving picture of life Lynn presented to all those she encountered! She was vivacious and effervescent and loved living life to its fullest. She loved her Lord and included Him in her life. Lynn will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband Joseph of 57 years, daughter Sheila (John) Matousek of Madera, California, sister Mildred Dautenhahn of Arnold, Missouri, granddaughter Brittany Matousek, grandsons Jared Matousek and Devin Standley, great granddaughter Amber Matousek, nieces Treva Benge, Laura Poletenson, Barbara Davis, Janice Carver, Deborah Hall, and nephew Donald Dautenhahn. She was predeceased by infant son Michael Blaine, daughter Shelley Standley, parents, her only brother, three sisters, and three nephews.

A celebration of life memorial service will be held Saturday, May 19 at 1:00 pm at Bethany Lutheran Church, 135 South E Street, in Lompoc. Any memorials may be sent to Bethany Lutheran Church or to the American Heart Association.
