Edward Thomas Smith Sr. of Lompoc, California went home to be with his Lord on July 19, 2008. He was born November 15, 1929 in Easthampton, Massachusetts to Edgar and Elizabeth Whitham Smith. Ed was married to Joan Marie Maher for 47 years until her passing in 1994. His wife, Mary Wynns Smith, whom he married in 1997, survives him.
Ed served in the U.S. Army after WWII as a radio operator. He retired from Hasbro Corp. where he was a tool and die engineer. He was a lay Eucharistic visitor and lector for St. Mary's Episcopal Church and a hospice volunteer.
Ed is also survived by his children: Edward Jr., Donna Lee and Gary (who was at his side) wife Denise and his stepchildren Donna Berg, Jan Hirschler (who assisted their mother caring for him in his final days( Dan and Jon Wiggins. As a result of this extended family he proudly recognized his 55 grandchildren and great grandchildren.
The memorial service will be held August 10, 2008 at St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Lompoc immediately following the 8:00 am mass. A Mass of the Christian burial was held at St. John's Episcopal Church in Brooksville, Fl. July 28, 2008 followed by a military internment at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL.
