Obituary

Edward M. Zipf was born 21 May 1912 in Newark, New Jersey. His time in the area included serving in the US Navy, owning a dry-cleaning business, and working in the industrial management area. A long-time resident of Hillside, New Jersey, he was elected to the Board of Education and actively supported the Republican Party. After retiring, he and his wife, Rose, moved to California in 1974 to be closer to their only child, Diane (Zipf) Zemanovic, and their grandchildren.

Edward passed away on 11 May 2007 at the Convalescent Care Center in Lompoc, California, surrounded by the love of his family and caretakers.

Edward relished seeing his grandsons grow and mature in the modern world. He enjoyed being busy with keeping the yard manicured, feeding the flocks of birds, walking the survivor's lap at the Relay for Life, and following the exploits of his beloved New York Yankees. His favorite meals will be remembered by the staffs at Tom's Burgers, the Cajun Kitchen Café, and El Toro Bronco restaurant.

Edward was preceded in death by his beloved wife Rose in 1975, his long-time companion Vivian Warburton in 1999, and all of his brothers and sisters. He is survived by his daughter, Diane, and son-in-law John Zemanovic, with whom he lived for the past twenty-seven years; grandsons John Zemanovic, Jr. of Redondo Beach, CA, and Jason Zemanovic and wife, Thomesina, of Roseville, CA; great-granddaughters Lacie Zemanovic of Myrtle Creek, OR, and Heather Zemanovic of Madera, CA; and soon-to-be-born great-grandson Sean Edward Zemanovic of Roseville, CA.

Funeral arrangements are by Starbuck-Lind Mortuary, Lompoc, CA. Services will be at Queen of Angels Catholic Church and officiated by Monsignor John Fitzgerald. A vigil service will be held on Tuesday, 15 May, at 6:00 PM. A mass will be said on Wednesday, 16 May, at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, it is requested contributions be made in Edward's name to the American Cancer Society or to the Convalescent Care Center, Lompoc, CA 93436.
