Elaine Alberta "Grandma Bert" Terrones went home on October 1, 2008 surrounded by family. Elaine was born November 29, 1931 in Valdez, Colorado to Pete and Margaret DeSoto. The family moved to Lompoc in 1948. She was a member of the graduating class of 1949. She graduated from Santa Maria Junior College in 1951 with an associate's degree in Business Administration. In 1954 she began her civil service career at Camp Cook as a stock record clerk. She retired in 1991 as a Management Analyst for Western Space and Missile Center for the Department of the Air Force.
An avid sports fan, she will be remembered for following her grandchildren through the LGSA, LGBL, Little League, Babe Ruth, Santa Barbara Men's Baseball, Village Football and Lompoc High School programs. She also enjoyed many Lompoc Dance recitals. She also was an avid cook and hobby seamstress.
She was a member of the Catholic Daughters and Lompoc Mexican Social Club.
She is survived by her brother Pete (Peggy) DeSoto, sister Gloria (Pete) Aguilar, sons John (Joy), Mike (Teresa) and Steve (Mary) Terrones. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Christina, Jessica (Kyle), Mayse, Johnathon, Jennifer, Jocelynn, Nikkole, Charryse, Mikie Jr., Riley and Stephanie, as well as her great-granddaughter Marley Mayse and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Pete Sr. and Margaret DeSoto.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday, October 7, 2008 from 4-8 p.m. at Starbuck-Lind Mortuary with a rosary to begin at 5:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will take place Wednesday, October 8, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at Queen of Angels Catholic Church with Monsignor John Fitzgerald to officiate.
