Eleanor Mixsell, 94, of Lompoc passed away on Sunday, October 3, 2010. Eleanor was born on February 15, 1916 to Williard W. and Elsie Hunt in Los Angeles, California. Raised in the Glendale area, she graduated from UCLA and taught first grade in Redlands.
Eleanor married Joseph W. Mixsell on September 8, 1943. The couple would have three children and live in Walnut Creek and Hawaii, before settling in Lompoc in 1958. She continued in education, working as an aide at many of the local school. She served in a wide variety of organization, including the Lompoc Alpha Club, AAUW, PTA, DAR, and Friends of the Library.
She was extremely active in the Presbyterian Church, served at the local, state and national levels, and was ordained as an elder in 1974.
Preceding her in death was her husband of nearly 60 years, Joseph Mixsell and daughter, Kathleen Mixsell. Eleanor is survived by her sons, Beau (Linda) Mixsell of San Bruno, California and Bill (Sandy) Mixsell of San Rafael, California; and five grand children, Richard Mixsell and Lisa Mixsell of San Bruno, Jennifer Gasmin of Las Vegas, Nevada, Belinda Mixsell of San Rafael and Brian Mixsell of Charleston, Virginia.
Eleanor had many friends. She would always have time to listen, focusing more on others than on herself. She had a great memory for people's names, and a knack for making folks feel appreciated. She was fortunate to live with great joy and happiness.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, October 25, 2010 at 11am at the First Presbyterian Church of Lompoc.
