Elisabethe "Lisa" Gamboa of Lompoc died Sunday, February 9, 2014, at the age of 79.
"Lisa," as she was known, was born March 31, 1934 in Darmstadt, Germany to Philipp and Berta Benz. She was raised and educated in Germany. In 1958 she married Mikel Gamboa, who was then stationed in Germany. They moved to Lompoc in 1965 when Mikel was transferred to Vandenberg Air Force Base. She completed her education by earning an associate's degree from Allan Hancock College.
Lisa worked as a manager in the hotel industry for many years in Lompoc, Solvang and Nuremberg, Germany. She enjoyed crafts, cooking, gardening and playing the penny slots at the Chumash Casino.
Lisa is survived by her husband of 55 years Mikel Gamboa of Lompoc, her son Otto Layman of Santa Barbara, daughters Margarethe Duncan of Papillion, Nebraska, Karin Fields of Boise, Idaho, Joni James Maiden of Lompoc, her son Fips Gamboa of Lompoc, her niece Stacy McDevitt of Florida, eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her twin sister Margarethe McDevitt in 2008.
In honor of her request, no services will be held. Cremation will be followed by private inurnment in the Lompoc Cemetery. Starbuck-Lind Mortuary, directors.
