Elvira E. Cardona of Lompoc died Tuesday, January 2, 2008 at the age of 95.
Elvira was born February 3, 1912 to Espiridion Siqueiros and Julia Carpio in Douglas, Arizona. She was raised and educated in Southern California settling in Lompoc in 1949. She moved in Goleta in 1960 but returned to Lompoc in 1998. She was a member of the Ladies' Auxiliary of the Santa Barbara Elk's Lodge #613 and Queen of Angels Catholic Church.
A lifelong homemaker Elvira enjoyed being the family matriarch. She loved to cook, crochet and to spend time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter Pauline Reyes of Lompoc, grandsons John (Guy) Vargas, Manuel Vargas and Gilbert Vargas all of Lompoc and Jimmy Vargas of Sahaurita, Arizona, granddaughter Andrea Vargas of Lompoc, 13 great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren, her sister-in-law Lydia Carpio and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years Manuel Cardona in 2003, her parents, and her brother Louis Carpio.
The visitation will be from 4-7 m on Sunday, January 6, with an evening vigil service at 5 pm in the Chapel of the Starbuck-Lind Mortuary. Father John Fitgerald will celebrate the mass of Christian Burial on Monday, January 7, at Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Mission Hills, after which she will be laid to rest next to her husband in the Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery.
