Esther Velasquez Tobin, or as she was more lovingly known, Teto, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, May 29, 2012.
She was born October 09, 1932 to Rogelio and Vivian Velasquez in San Juan Capistrano, CA. They relocated to Lompoc, CA when she was a young girl.
Teto grew up on the ranches of Lompoc where her Dad was a foreman. She loved her childhood and spoke of the many memories she had as a young girl growing up on the ranch. She helped take care of the animals, helped with the garden, and cooked; that is how she became the famous tortilla maker. She met John Tobin (Jack) and they married on July 29, 1967 and had a daughter. She lived in New Jersey for a few years and then returned to Lompoc where she remained until her passing.
She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and she served faithfully for many years. She loved her church and the Savior with all her heart.
Teto enjoyed painting, cooking, and genealogy, but her greatest love was serving her family. Her life was one of continual service, even until she passed away. She helped take care of her mom, many brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews and then in her retirement years helped take care of her four grandchildren that she loved and adored. She loved spending her time attending her grandchildren's baseball and soccer games, music concerts, and anything they were involved in.
She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Moreno (Richard), four grandchildren, Richard, Raymond, Jacob and Rebekah Moreno; her sisters Victoria Aguiniga of Lompoc; Ruth Lewis of Orcutt; her brothers Marvin and Richard Velasquez of Santa Maria; David (Rose) Velasquez of Maryland; and Rossi (Shannon) Velasquez of Lompoc and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her Father Rogelio and Mother Vivian Velasquez, brother Roy Velasquez, and sisters Abigail Rivas, Eva and Vivian Velasquez.
The visitation will be on Tuesday, June 5, from 4-8 pm at Starbuck-Lind Mortuary. The funeral service will be on Wednesday, June 6, at 10 am at the Lompoc Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1312 West Prune Avenue, followed by interment in the Lompoc Cemetery.
Teto's love and devotion to her family, and anyone she came in contact with, are great examples to live by. There wasn't a person she didn't meet that didn't get a Teto hug and those hugs will be missed. We love you Mommie!!
