On Saturday, July 29, 2017, Eugene W. Dicus quietly slipped from this world. He was born June 28, 1933 in Saint Louis, Missouri.
He enlisted in the United States Army Air Corp at 17 years of age, and became a career Air Force Policeman. He served his country proudly and saw combat in Korea and Viet Nam. He was stationed also in Spain and Germany where he met his future wife Rosalie Kikkl in 1957.
They married in 1959 in her hometown of Eberbach. He eventually retired as a sergeant at Vandenberg Air Force Base. He then worked as a case manager for Federal Corrections in Lompoc for 19 years before retiring. He worked in security for an oil refinery before concluding his career in law enforcement as a volunteer in the Lompoc Police Department. He was a historian at heart and his stories will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents Mable and Lilburn Dicus, and his siblings James Dicus and Fay Webb. He is survived by his wife Rosalie; sons John and Anthony; daughter Pamela Brink; four grandchildren; two great grandchildren and many friends.
The visitation will be Wednesday, August 2, from 4-7pm in the chapel of the Starbuck-Lind Mortuary. Father Mike Sezzi will celebrate the mass of Christian burial at La Purisima Catholic Church on Thursday, August 3, at 9:30am. The graveside service with military honors will follow in the Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery.
We express our heartfelt thanks to Visiting Nurses and Hospice. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to a charity of your choice.
