Eugene (Gene) F. Gillespie formerly of Lompoc died Saturday, April 11, 2009 at the age of 82 in La Vale, Maryland. He was a beloved husband,father and friend.
Gene was born November 29, 1926, to Eugene and Verna Gillespie in
Chicago, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years,
Charline L. Gillespie.
He is survived by his sons, Eugene C. Gillespie of La Vale, Maryland
and Daniel M. Gillespie; three grandchildren and twelve great-grand
children.
He was a resident of Lompoc for 48 years. Gene served in the United
States Air Force and retired after 20 years service. Following his Air Force
service he worked for Martin-Marietta and retired after 20 years. He worked
in the accounting field for most of his career and was fortunate to work in
a field he loved.
Gene attended church services at Chapel One on Vandenberg Air Force
Base where he was active as Lead Usher for the Contemporary Service. He was
an avid golfer and especially enjoyed playing at the Marshallia Ranch Golf
Course at Vandenberg where he was a member. He enjoyed spending time with
his family and friends and often said that he was blessed to have so many
good friends and neighbors.
Visitation will be in the Starbuck-Lind Mortuary, 123 North A St. in
Lompoc, from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, April 17.
Funeral services will be conducted in the Starbuck-Lind Chapel on
April 18 at 10:00 a.m. with Chaplain Captain Mark Robertson and Major Bill
Hughen officiating.
Interment will be in Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery with military honors.
